Genre: Mature YA Romance

Abby Cortez is a girl with goals, on the verge of turning eighteen and on the brink of stardom. Falling in love isn't just something she doesn't have time for, it's something she doesn't really believe in. Her rule? Date but never, ever fall.

Tory "Salvatore" D'Angelo loves falling in love...just not for real. The star basketball player at Allensville Public High gives his heart away one girl at a time then takes it back when he's ready to move on. No serious feelings, no serious pain.

They’re both good plans until Abby’s jaded heart gets all tangled up with Tory’s hopeless one. A friendly rivalry grows into friendship, and long talks start to blur the lines.
Just one problem—Abby’s current boyfriend is Tory’s twin brother, Hayden.

Review:

Varsity Tiebreaker is Tory and Abby’s book, who you meet in the first book, Varsity Heartbreak, if you have read it. Though, this is a series of standalone, and there is enough information given that you could read this one and not be confused if you haven't read the first one. I loved both of these characters in June and Lucas’s book and I was super excited to dive into this one.

Tory is that guy that is always the funny friend. He cracks jokes and uses humor to deflect from his feelings, and the seriousness of life sometimes. But after all of the things that happened with his family, we really get to see a different side to Tory in VT. Him and Hayden both are going through so much with their family in this book, and the animosity with each other that comes with one brother dating the girl the other one wants.

I really loved Tory and Hayden’s relationship as brothers. Even when they are going through so much, with each other and family, they are still able to have that bond with each other. There was a lot for these two to work through, and a lot of rough patches, but at the end of the day they are still brothers.

And of course Tory and Abby. These two were exactly what the other needed at the time, but with so many things standing in their way, it’s not an easy journey for them. It was extremely rocky, but you could feel the connection that these two had through the pages.

I really enjoyed Abby and Tory. And the angst and sexual tension is high in this one! It is definitely more of a slow burn romance, which I loved. If you read and loved June and Lucas's book, and even if you haven't, you are also going to love Tory and Abby.
