Book Review (ARC) - A Gorgeous Villain by Saffron A. Kent

Title: A Gorgeous Villain

Author: Saffron A. Kent

Genre: NA Enemies to Lovers

Rating: ★★★☆☆ 3.5

Blurb:

Two years ago, Reed Jackson betrayed Calliope Thorne and broke her heart. So she stole his most prized possession – a white mustang – and drove it into the lake for revenge.

Now, Callie is stuck at a reform school while Reed is off at college, living his life without repercussions.

Until he comes back.

With him comes back all the feelings that Callie has been trying to bury: anger and heartbreak.

But most of all, desire. At the sight of his beautiful but lying lips and his gunmetal gray eyes that still taunt and smolder when he looks at her.

Whatever though. It's not as if Callie is ever going to fall for her ex-boyfriend again. Or let him corner her in a bar one night and touch her, kiss her…

Neither is she going to kiss him back. Or worse, sleep with him.

Because that would make her naïve and foolish.

Oh, and also pregnant.

And there's no way Callie is ever going to get pregnant at eighteen and with Reed's baby, no less. The guy she hates.

The guy who taught her all about heartbreak. Who might look like a gorgeous hero but really is the villain of her story.

NOTE: This story is a standalone and does not contain cheating.

Review:

We first meet Callie and Reed in the My Darling Arrow, which is Salem’s book. I was intrigued about Callie and Reed’s story from the start, the little bit that we see of them in that book had me anticipating A Gorgeous Villain.

I really liked Callie and Reed, but something I don’t experience often happened. I found myself connecting with Reed more than I did Callie. His character was just more relatable to me personally. I really loved him. Now don’t get me wrong, I like Callie I just connected more with Reed’s character in this one, which doesn’t happen often. I obviously connect with the girls in books more often, but there was just something about Reed that I really connected to. I love the damaged bad boys. I just really felt for Reed.

I really enjoyed their story. It had all the angst and things that I love. But as much as I liked it, it did take me a bit to get into the book and I didn't fully connected with it. Callie has a lot of inner monologue, and I personally prefer more talking and interaction with other characters than inner thoughts, and I think that was a big part of me not fully connecting. Again, just a personal preference for me. When there was interaction and conversations with Reed or other characters I was hooked and turning pages, but when it was just in Callie’s head there was a disconnect for me.

Overall, I enjoyed A Gorgeous Villain. I liked Callie and Reed and the story and angst was great, I just had a personal disconnect with Callie and her inner thoughts.
